Cinnamon apple fairy cakes

I found the recipe for these in a newspaper article on the train home from Bristol at the weekend. I made them last night and my housemates demolished them in short order, declaring them delicious. I used my own standard icing (100g icing sugar to 100g butter, beaten together) rather than the frosting given in the article.

Highly recommended (although the quantities are a bit odd – I ended up with 15 cakes rather than the more useful 12).
